With the beginning of the “roadside weed season” now in progress, the SAHA Firewise team is again reminding all residents that you need to be certain that roadside weeds and grass growing parallel to all SAHA roads must be removed before the end of May to a preferred depth of 8 feet, where possible.  As growth of most of these weeds is just now starting to take off, there are multiple control methods recommended by the team:

1) Weed Whacking – using you own gas or electric weed whacker, OR borrow the team’s electric weed whacking kit, complete with batteries, charger, spare trimmer string and a clean-up blower.  To use the team’s weed tool, call Bob Peterson at 360-210-1100.

2) Spraying with a glycophosphte-based weed killer like RoundUp.  This product has serious safety warnings about exposure, and is a suspected carcinogen.  Use sparingly and carefully.

3) (Better yet) Spraying with a product generally recognized as safe for humans, but deadly to weeds, such as:

• Green Gobbler 20% Vinegar Weed & Grass Killer (amazon)

• Clean Green Selective Weed Killer (amazon)

• Natural Armor Weed and Grass Killer (amazon)

• Natural Elements Weed Killer (amazon) • Avenger Weed Killer (Home Depot)

• Ecosmart Weed & Grass Killer (Home Depot)

Again, the goal is to get this individual homeowner effort completed AHEAD of the ever-advancing wildfire season.  If you need help in meeting this deadline, please contact Bob Peterson, or the team at [email protected].
